Jeep Wagoneer: Then and Now

2022 Jeep Wagoneer

After a 30-year hiatus, the Jeep Wagoneer is back on Giddings streets! While you might remember the vintage Jeep Wagoneer as the wood-paneled, boxy SUV forefather, it was a huge automotive innovator in its day. That hasn’t changed with the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer, and neither has the classic SUV spaciousness and formidable style. Let’s take a look back at the old Jeep Wagoneer and see how it compares to the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer with Oviedo Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram FIAT. You can even take a moment to reserve a 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer with us while you’re here!

Jeep Wagoneer Then and Now: Innovation

The original 1963 Jeep Wagoneer hit Smithville streets, and was the first time four-wheel drive, independent front suspension, and an automatic transmission were teamed up for off-road capability with comfort and driveability. The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer is also engineered for performance and comfort. The available Advanced All-Terrain Group builds on that old Jeep Wagoneer legacy with a 4×4 system that’s enhanced with Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System, Quadra-Lift® Air Suspension System with semi-active damping. What does this mean? It means the new Jeep Wagoneer, like its predecessor, is ready to hit the trail with nearly sixty years of research and innovation to make this the most comfortable, driveable off-road-ready SUV yet.

Jeep Wagoneer Then and Now: Performance

The old Jeep Wagoneer was no slouch under the hood, with a 3.8-liter Tornado inline-six engine capable of 140 hp and 210 lb-ft of torque in 1963. That legacy lives on in the new Jeep Wagoneer, which sports the same 5.7-liter V8 engine that helped the RAM 1500 win Motortrend’s Truck of the Year. It generates 392 hp and 404 lb-ft of torque that manages to be efficient thanks to eTorque mild hybrid technology. Get ready to hitch up the Airstream, because the new Jeep Wagoneer is capable of towing up to 10,000 pounds.

Jeep Wagoneer Then and Now: Style

The old Jeep Wagoneer created the luxury SUV, and while we love poking fun at the vintage Jeep Wagoneer’s wood panels, they’re a style icon for good reason! The vintage Jeep Wagoneer was originally designed by Brooks Stevens, Inc. the company that also originated the robin’s egg blue kitchen appliance color of the 1950s, Formica’s Skylark pattern, and Skytop Lounge observation cars for passenger trains. These looks are the heart and soul of mid-century modern design. The new Jeep Wagoneer pages homage to the original with subtle touches like American walnut woodgrain interior finishes, along with state of the art luxury features that include available quilted Palermo leather-trimmed seating, contrast stitching, dual-textured metal framing, and an exterior inspired by sweeping lines of the American landscape.
